Frequently asked questions

Anything not answered here, ask in the enquiry form above — a consultant replies, not a bot.

What is the duration of the Shillong Mawlynnong Dawki tour?

The tour is 5 nights and 6 days, covering Shillong, Cherrapunji, Mawlynnong, Dawki, and Guwahati. It is the most comprehensive Meghalaya itinerary, ideal for travelers wanting to experience waterfalls, caves, living root bridges, Asia's cleanest village, and the crystal-clear Umngot River in one trip.

Which places are covered in this package?

The tour covers Guwahati (Kamakhya Temple), Shillong (Umiam Lake, Ward's Lake, Lady Hydari Park, Shillong Peak, Elephant Falls, Don Bosco Museum), Cherrapunji (Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Cave, Arwah Cave, Seven Sisters Falls, Eco Park), Mawlynnong (Sky View, Balancing Rock), Riwai (Living Root Bridge), and Dawki (Umngot River boating, India–Bangladesh border).

What is included in the MAP plan?

The MAP plan (Modified American Plan) includes daily breakfast and dinner at the hotel for all 5 nights. Lunch is not included, giving you the flexibility to enjoy local Khasi cuisine such as Jadoh rice, pork dishes, and café food at popular spots during daytime sightseeing.

What is the best time to visit Dawki for crystal-clear water?

The Umngot River at Dawki is at its clearest from November to March, when the water becomes transparent enough for boats to appear floating in mid-air. During monsoon (June–September), heavy rains make the river turbulent and muddy, so boating may be limited or unavailable.

Why is Mawlynnong famous?

Mawlynnong is celebrated as "Asia's Cleanest Village," a title awarded by Discover India magazine. The village is known for its immaculate bamboo-lined lanes, community-driven cleanliness, organic farming, the bamboo Sky View tower, the Balancing Rock, and its sustainable Khasi tribal lifestyle – making it a must-visit eco-tourism destination in Meghalaya.

How difficult is the Double-Decker Living Root Bridge trek?

The full trek to Nongriat village involves approximately 3,500 stone steps down and back up, taking 3–4 hours each way. It is moderately difficult and recommended only for fit travelers with an early start. This package includes the Tyrna viewpoint visit; the full trek can be arranged on prior request.

How far is Dawki from Shillong and Guwahati?

Dawki is approximately 82 km from Shillong (2.5–3 hours) and about 150 km from Guwahati (4–5 hours). The route passes through scenic Khasi hills, waterfalls, and the famous Mawkdok Dympep valley viewpoints.

Is Dawki the India–Bangladesh border?

Yes, Dawki is a border town in Meghalaya where the Umngot River crosses into Bangladesh at Tamabil. You can visit the Dawki Integrated Check Post and witness the Indo-Bangladesh trade route, though crossing the border requires valid passports and visas.

Is this budget tour package suitable for 4 people?

Yes, this package is priced per person for a group of 4 pax traveling together in one private cab – great value for families, two couples, or friend groups, with exclusive vehicle use throughout the entire 6-day journey.

Are there entry fees for the sightseeing spots?

Yes, nominal entry fees apply at Elephant Falls, Mawsmai Cave, Arwah Cave, Eco Park, Ward's Lake, Lady Hydari Park, Don Bosco Museum, and Mawlynnong village/skywalk. These range from ₹20 to ₹200 per person and are payable directly at each location.

What should we pack for this Meghalaya tour?

Carry light woolens (heavy woolens in winter), comfortable walking shoes with good grip for caves and root bridges, rain jackets or umbrellas (essential for Cherrapunji), sunglasses, sunscreen, power banks, dry snacks, and valid ID proofs. Mobile networks work well in Shillong but may be patchy in Sohra, Mawlynnong, and Dawki.

Can the itinerary be customized?

Yes, the tour can be customized with extensions to Kaziranga National Park, a full-day Kamakhya Temple visit, Laitlum Canyons, Krang Suri Falls, or premium resort and homestay upgrades on request. An overnight stay at a Mawlynnong village homestay can also be arranged for an authentic Khasi experience.

About the places you will visit

A short introduction to each stop. The full travel guide for each place lives on its own page.

Guwahati

Guwahati: The Gateway to the Northeast

Almost every North East India journey begins here, and most travellers make the same mistake — they treat Guwahati as an airport with a hotel attached, landing at night and leaving for Shillong or Kaziranga by morning.

Give it two days instead.

Assam's largest city sprawls along the south bank of the Brahmaputra, a river so vast here that in the monsoon the far shore simply disappears into haze. Guwahati is old — mentioned in the epics as Pragjyotishpura, the City of Eastern Light — and it wears that age lightly, in hilltop shrines, a river full of islands, and a market culture that starts before dawn. It is also the region's practical hub: the busiest airport in the Northeast, its main railhead, and the point from which nearly every itinerary radiates.

Shillong

Shillong Tour Packages: Complete Travel Guide, Sightseeing & Places to Visit

Known as the "Scotland of the East," Shillong is Meghalaya's charming capital — a hill station of pine forests, glistening lakes, colonial charm, and vibrant Khasi culture. Perched at 4,900 ft, it serves as the perfect gateway to Cherrapunji's waterfalls, Dawki's crystal river, and Asia's cleanest village.
